DS Assist Station
What is the Assist Station?
Avid DS Assist Station is capable of
realtime playback and processing even without the full hardware equipment of
Avid DS Nitris. When installed on any standard desktop system (with the
minimal specifications described below), it can be used to off-load tasks
from the heavy-duty editing stations—tasks such as conform checks,
rotoscoping, graphics, effects, and compositing.
The software-only workstation is designed
to either work in a shared workgroup environment with Avid DS Nitris or
stand alone. It doesn’t have any I/O capabilities of its own for
signal-based video and audio, however, you can capture and output from file.
|
Note:
|
Processing of effects is all done by the software. These
capabilities are only limited by the underlying hardware and an
adequate disk subsystem on the workstation where it is installed.
The drive type, cache size, speed, capacity and connection will have
an impact on the real-time playability of media. |

Optional component that can be added to the Assist Station:
Video card
(supported on Windows
XP Professional x64 Edition only)
This option requires a license update to enable the
Dual-Link hardware. Install the driver for both cards by running the
Avid DS Nitris DNA 64-bit drivers and firmware installer.
Skip the Nitris Base and Codec steps and the AJA driver will
install. This is the only Avid DS qualified AJA driver. Do not
install other versions to avoid issues.
Warning!
The AJA option on Avid DS Assist Station is strictly to allow
external video monitoring and we do not certify the audio integrity
nor its accuracy with the video material. If used for crash record
to tape, we do not guarantee nor support that it will work properly. |

Avid DS
RP
What is an Avid DS RP?
Avid DS RP enables editors and digital artists to explore
their creative options while computationally intensive tasks are distributed
to remote processors. This frees the Avid DS Nitris and Assist Station from
long processing jobs that would otherwise paralyses the workstation to this
unique task. When Avid DS RP undertake remote processing jobs, the Avid DS
Nitris and Assist Station are free to work on other effects in the timeline
or they can load a different sequence, even a different project without
disturbing the Avid DS RP.
